Video Van Update + An Impersonation You Won’t Want to Miss

The last few days have been an absolute whirlwind, in a good way of course! Since Ethan is still in Boston for now I brought my parents with me on Saturday to go look at a couple of potential vans. This is a huge decision because it’s essentially going to be my home for quite possibly the next year.

We narrowed it down to two (thanks to Ethan’s stealthy search strategies) that weren’t too far from my folk’s house. Which is where I’m staying until I can iron out the vehicle/fundraiser details. So, my parents and I hopped in their Honda and headed out to Sacandaga Lake, NY to check out van #1, which I’ve lovingly named “the red dragon.”

She was beautiful! A 1990 G20 with 140,000 miles with a very well kept exterior, in great condition. There were just a few red flags – when I called ahead I was told that everything was in working order and such… but upon arrival we found out that the passenger side window wasn’t working properly and there is a chip in the windshield. Not terribly big things but I would have preferred an honest word up front about ’em. Also, when I took it for a test drive, it seemed just okay. Wasn’t terribly solid but again, was just okay.

Within an hour of returning to my parent’s house I got a call from the owners of van #2; I decided to call this one “the green machine.” So, we were back in the car and headed to Troy, NY to see the next one.

This time around it was a 1995 G20 with 145,000 miles. While the exterior was a little more ‘used’ you could tell that there was a lot of love put into this van. The owner has had the van for quite some time and only six weeks ago took it in to get it tuned up. When I took it for a test drive I could tell this one was a stand out! It felt strong and solid. Also, the owner was very up front with everything, both during my first inquiry and when we met him in person. He gave us the low down on the updates, the faults, the everythings. There’s something to be said about the “vibe” you get from someone too, and this guy just seemed genuinely kind and honest. And if that wasn’t enough, we found out that they are horse people (us too!) and they had just rescued a miniature pony from terrible conditions. We got to meet her… she was so sweet!! :) If (when?) we go back I’ll try to get a pic for you! ;)
